There were two things coming from the festival that I wanted to specifically thank you for, but I only remember one right now.  So before I forget that one.........Thanks for instructing me not to miss The Legendary Soul Stirrers.  They were one of my favorite acts for sure.  Plus my brother got to dance in front of everyone, so he was happy too.

I should have joined you there instead of trying to get my Back Door Slammed, Tommy! I love checking out the rootsier acts they put on in the WaMu tent.

Oh yeah, I spent a lot of quality time under the tent this year, and it was nice to be out from under that oppressive TX sun.  I loved the Soul Stirrers set though...Plus I had my back door slammed the night before anyway

Was it Ryan Shaw?

Or was it, the best act I've seen this year (at Millenium Park):  Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective?

Maybe it was Shaw, but I know there were some others that recommended him too (Marko, and Sheryl).  Anyway, Ryan Shaw was one of my weekend favorites and I danced harder at his set than any other despite being the hottest set all weekend (weather-wise).  And his band was superb!  That was one of the best bass players I've EVER seen......EVER

Ah, but was it a better bass player than that (literal) axe-slinger and God of Thunder, Gene Simmons?  I don't think so.  It's not true music without stage blood and pyrotechnics!

You'll probably need to block the A&E channel from your cable box, then, because his "reality" show Gene Simmons' Family Jewels (the reality of which is that it's obviously scripted, totally staged and depressingly pointless) seems to air there 24/7.  I can't even watch Sopranos reruns on it for fear of being subjected to non-stop promos for that crap!

Yeah it doesn't help I have a couple co-workers that love that show and are always trying to get me to watch it. I watched part of one episode and i just don't get it i guess.

What really turned me off to Gene Simmons was his interview on the Henry Rollins Show on IFC. Wow, what a douche.

I haven't seen that Rollins show interview, but I've seen him enough in years past on other shows (especially Howard Stern) to know that Gene has no shame when it comes to pandering for dollars from KISS fans, so I have no doubt that he was a megadouche on that show.  It's amusing in small doses to see someone so honest about their moneygrubbing, but he's as creatively bankrupt as they come.

yeah i mean at least he makes no bones about it that he exploits his fans and that he only sees them as dollar signs, but I don't agree with it at all.

i mean...how many "reunion" tours did kiss do?

I thought the Rollins show would be good since Henry Rollins seems to be a geniunely intelligent and literate person, but he is a godawful kiss-ass of an interviewer. Love the musical performance they have on there, though. Ryan Adams in particular was epic.

i definitely lost a little respect for him during that interview with gene simmons. you could tell it bothered him with the things he was saying but he just sat there and kissed his ass like always.

I watched the first 4 minutes of his interview with Steven Tyler and that was about all I could stomach. What's the point of interviewing someone who has nothing to say?

well i liked the first season alot, i even have the dvd. there's alot of good interviews and musical acts on there, but this current season hasn't really caught my eye. in fact, i think the last episode i watched was the one with gene simmons, and that was pretty early on in the season.
