More info on the KGSR things:

IN THE MORNING: The Four Seasons Hotel hosts "KGSR in the Morning" as Bryan Beck and Andy Langer broadcast live SXSW Week (March 10-14) with guests from the SXSW Interactive, Film, and Music conferences. Musical guests include: Moby, Ian Moore, Bob Schneider, Mason Jennings, Brett Dennen, Matthew Ryan, Joe Ely w/ Joel Guzman and many others! There's limited audience room, so come early and your $5.00 donation to the Seton Shivers Cancer Center gets you breakfast and live radio.
IN THE MUSIC LOUNGE: KGSR invites you to be part of Whattya Want for Lunch Live during SXSW. Go to KGSR.com for your chance to join us in-person for intimate performances from Billy Bragg and Carbon Silicon (Thursday), or Bobby Whitlock & Coco Carmel and Bodeans (Friday).
IN THE AFTERNOON: KGSR welcomes a steady stream of talented performers to the KGSR "out-of" control room for live SXSW performances. Tune in to hear Daniel Lanois, Kate Walsh, Buddy Miller, Yo La Tengo, James McMurtry, Tift Merritt and many others - and here's the full schedule.
KGSR's SXSW PAGE is sponsored by Fox Service Company, with special thanks to Louis Shanks, By George, Central Texas Harley-Davidson, and St. Bernard Sports.

I am trying to go to go to this thing called Texas Rock Fest. It is a show thing off the SXSW I think. Does anyone no where inAustin it is other than just "downtown"? This is the link. but I can't seem to find info. www.texasrockfest.com

Uuuhh, you can't find the info?  It's right there on the main page, as well as their blog.

"...cutting edge live music on three outdoor stages, The Spill on Sixth stage, two satellite stages at Merkaba Lounge and the new Rock City Icehouse, multiple Guitar Hero competition kiosks, refreshment pavillions spinning with world class DJ's and dancing the night away, big screens, mind blowing lights, truly unbelievable prizes and giveaways all in the heart of Austin's Sixth Street Entertainment District."

Merkaba Lounge is in Pflugerville, the Rock City Icehouse is near I-35 and 183, I believe.  The Spill on Sixth is, well, on 6th St.  Then there's this:

I am not from the area. I am very sorry. I wasn't for sure, that's why I asked. Thank you for the help!

Google is a wonderful thing.   But yeah, their wording is confusing and misleading.

I guess I should start scheduling.

I think I'm just going to hit up 2 showcases a night, then as many day parties as possible.

And the AMA! I will get in! I will cry little girl tears if necessary to see Roky and Okkervil!

Because looking at the showcases, most of them have more than one band I wanna see. And I like to be close up. Rushing around a whole lot while seeing a lot of bands does not appeal to me. Being up close for several bands I like with only one or two journeys in between does.

Gotcha!  I misunderstood.  When you said showcases, I thought you meant an individual act, in one time slot.  Not a sponsored showcase with 5 bands/night at the same venue.

I hear ya on wanting to be up front.  Eye contact, pic-taking, it rocks!  Since I'm short, I don't feel the least bit guilty about moving my way ahead of anyone taller.

Stacey, I'm planning on doing some running around at night actually. Most of the places I have penciled in aren't the big Stubbs/AMH/Emo's shows, so you think I'll still be able to get in at the smaller clubs if I go to two or three a night?

That's hard to predict, but if you're planning to see one of the more popular acts in a smaller club, I'd still try to get there 30 min-hour early.  I always try to schedule a few bands that are not supposedly the next big thing.  I also like to leave some roaming time to just let my ears lead me into a club.  Some of my favorite acts were bands totally off my radar, playing to a room of only 10-15 people.

Most bands play about 40-45 minutes and then have the 15 minute set up, right?

Correct.  But another thing that will fuck you up are the bands that start on the half-hour.  That just began last year, I don't like it.

Hey guys. Van Morrison is playing La Zona Rosa at 7PM on the day of the meat, and we'll be two blocks from it. Should we all try and go by for an hour or two before heading to R.E.M? See if we can get in?
