Sure there is. I probably won't see them again, but I'm open to hearing the records.

The Flaming Lips are overrated, but that doesn't mean they're not a fun band with a few pretty great records. Just accept the love they get and listen to Mercury Rev albums and feel superior.

You've seen them once live (in a festival setting) and you "hate" them. I agree with Angelina. assfail.

I guess the earmuffs prevented you from seeing the . Usually... that denotes a joke or sarcasm.
But yeah. They wasted my time. Could've been at Ben Harper.

I like a few songs from The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi but that's about it.

Have to give them props for being an entertaining live band

Enjoyed their show at Stubb's once years ago and their show at Bass Concert Hall w/Beck a few years ago was spectacular.

You should DEFINITELY listen to some of their albums. They are amazing. I heard about their show at ACL being annoying because yes they weren't playing much, but just for a moment forget about that and just listen to one of their albums. The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots are two of my favorite albums. Definitely worth a few listens Shawn!!

Black Keys, DBTs, Old 97s and the SSPU(not in one show)

I heard it'll be all one show.  And Saturday night, starting around the time the Mars Volta come on.

Except Mars Volta is playing Friday night, Maggie!

You will still be hearing Mars Volta ringing in your head well into Saturday.

I have to agree with Niz on this one. They offer a great visual show, but their music and constant talking about how wonderful Wayne is gets old very fast.

I hope there is good show on Friday night as I have no idea who Manu Chao is and although I liked and saw At the Drive-In I don't Mars Volta at all. Should I find out who Manu Chao is?

Yes.

I just put "La Radiolina" in my saved list on eMusic and will download tonight. I am a fan of Nacional Records stuff so I am thinking without hearing him that I will like him.

Excuse me?

I love both.

That said, I didn't check them out in 2006 because a huge festival isn't their wheelhouse - smaller venues and they absolutely win.

Lips, that is.

The Mars Volta should have an aftershow all to themselves that way they can do a 2+ hour set rather then the hour and 15mins they get for the fest

I promise you....and I realize that this gets said a ton about ABC band.....see them in a smaller setting like LZR, which will be tough because it'll sell out in -.07 seconds....and the experience will be different.  Not saying that you'll love them, but it takes a week to wipe the smile off of your face.

They are not a good festival band because it's about the total show, not just the music.

Somehow this thread just wants to be: "who sucks Flaming Lips or Mars Volta" so here's a clearer view on my position: I saw the Flaming Lips years ago open for the Surfers and they sucked. I enjoy their albums but I wouldn't put them at the top of my fav. bands list but if I had to choose between the two (which I don't) I would pick the Lips because I don't like Mars Volta's albums. But i may be making the wrong decision, as I said before I loved At the Drive-In when I saw them (open for Tenacious D years ago) but it's not the same band.
